Good UI
Goal- Buying a new house in Boston.
http://www.trulia.com/ is a great website for buying new house, the UI is friendly, self-explanatory, and aesthetically pleasing with all the large and colorful image of the house. Trulia has a great feedback on everywhere you click or hovered, it is also responsive when you zoom in or out on the map viewer with instant update feedback for new listing house. The interface is also consistent.

Buy a Car
Bad UI
Goal- Buy a used car
http://www.boston.com/section/cars?p1=Levelone_Nav_cars_hp is part of Boston.com. My scenario goal is to find the best deal for an Audi car. First I try to filter out by budget and found that they put down 1 as an option for Minimum Budget drop down, it wasn’t clear to me why wouldn’t they use an input box instead. Next I try to search for a somewhat unreasonable price range the web page doesn’t have any feedback telling me there is no search result instead it gives me a blank page. A few suggestion will be make the budget filter as an input box instead of drop down and make sure when there is no result return some kind of feedback telling user no result found in database.

Buy/ Sell a Guitar
Bad UI
Goal- Buying a guitar
http://www.guitarshack.com/ is badly design, when entered I am completely lost with the massive list of guitar brand, it takes up to three full screens to browse through every brand, although it’s alphabetically order it is still a really bad design. An alternative design for the page will be making the home page with major brand’s icons like Taylor, Martin, etc. For browsing only, and use a search engine with filter option for user that is looking for more specified guitar.
